Double-acting hydraulic cylinders with rod eye and threaded fittings

A double-acting hydraulic cylinder with rod eye and threaded fittings has a rod eye at the rod end and a mounting lug at the base end. The threaded fittings are the hydraulic connections. Hydraulic pressure extends and retracts the cylinder. Compare two sizes, 40/25 and 50/30, by stroke, centre-to-centre length and mounting dimensions.

Check the mounting and hydraulic connections separately

The rod eye and rear mounting lug are the mechanical mounting points. The threaded fittings on top of the cylinder connect to the hydraulic system. Compare the hole diameter and width of both mounting ends, the available space and the required movement. The same stroke does not automatically mean an interchangeable cylinder: both retracted and extended centre-to-centre lengths must fit.

Choose the correct size

For example, 50/30 means a 50 mm bore and a 30 mm rod diameter. These are not the mounting-hole diameters. All dimensions below are in millimetres.

Rod eye and threaded fittings 40/25

Strokes: 150, 200, 250, 300, 350, 400, 450, 500, 550, 600 mm.

Hole diameter at both ends: 19.3 mm.
Width of rod eye and rear lug: 31.8 mm.

Compare stroke and mounting length by SPH code

Retracted and extended lengths are measured centre to centre: from the centre of one mounting hole to the centre of the other. Open your size and select an SPH code to view that variant. On a narrow screen, scroll the table sideways.

Working pressure and load

The recommended working pressure is 180 bar; the maximum allowable pressure is 250 bar. The permissible load also depends on stroke, buckling load and mounting. Do not choose a cylinder on maximum pressure alone.

Which mounting do you need?

When replacing a cylinder, compare the complete mounting and the available installation space. Other options:

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the rod eye and the threaded fittings?

The rod eye is at the end of the piston rod. The threaded fittings on top of the cylinder are hydraulic connections. A separate mounting lug is located at the base end. Check both the mechanical mounting points and the hydraulic connections.

Do 40/25 and 50/30 describe the mounting holes?

No. These codes describe bore and rod diameter. The mounting holes are 19.3 mm on 40/25 and 25.9 mm on 50/30. Check the mounting pin and required fit separately.

How do I measure my existing cylinder?

Retracted and extended lengths are measured centre to centre: from the centre of one mounting hole to the centre of the other.

Can I select a replacement by stroke alone?

No. Also compare retracted and extended lengths, both mounting ends, bore and rod diameters, and hydraulic connections. Together, these determine whether the cylinder fits your installation.
