Single-acting hydraulic cylinders
A single-acting hydraulic cylinder produces hydraulic force in one direction. Choose a cylinder with transverse mounting holes or a standard version without pre-drilled mounting holes. Compare the mounting, dimensions and stroke before selecting a variant.
Check the return movement first
Oil pressure extends these cylinders. Retraction requires the load, gravity or another external force from the machine. The installation must allow this return movement. If you need hydraulic force in both directions, compare the double-acting cylinders.

Without pre-drilled mounting holes at the base or rod end. Check how the cylinder will be mounted in your structure and compare the overall dimensions with the drawing.

Which size and stroke do you need?
The size code 40/30 means a 40 mm bore and a 30 mm rod diameter. It does not specify the mounting-hole diameter. Stroke is the extension travel. Check installation space and load as well; do not select by the size code alone. All dimensions below are in millimetres.

Standard — 15 variants
Installation length: use the correct measuring points
For the version with transverse mounting holes, the drawing length is measured between the centres of the mounting holes. For the standard version, it is the overall length from the rear face of the cylinder base to the rod tip. These are different measurements. Use the measuring points on the product drawing and check both the retracted and extended positions.
Working pressure and load
The recommended working pressure for these cylinder groups is 180 bar; the maximum pressure is 250 bar. Also check stroke, mounting, alignment and load for your application. Maximum pressure alone does not determine whether a cylinder suits your machine.
Single-acting or double-acting?
Choose single-acting when you need hydraulic force in one direction and the machine can provide the return movement. For hydraulic extension and retraction, choose double-acting. For several extending stages, compare telescopic cylinders. Check hoses, fittings and controls for compatibility with the complete system.

Frequently asked questions
How does a single-acting cylinder retract?
These cylinders are not hydraulically pulled back through a second oil port. The load, gravity or another external force from the machine must provide the return movement.
What is the difference between standard and transverse-hole versions?
The transverse-hole version has mechanical mounting holes at both ends. The standard version does not have these pre-drilled holes. Length measuring points also differ; check the product drawing.
Can I replace a cylinder with another of the same stroke?
Compare all other dimensions first: size group, mounting, installation length, available space, system pressure and hydraulic connection. Check that the machine can still provide the return movement.
